Questions to ask when considering an Active Adult Community

Questions to ask when considering an Active Adult Community

While many retirees welcome the idea of moving to a retirement community with enthusiasm, others may be reluctant to take this big step. Moving to a retirement community entails a change of lifestyle. Hence, here are some important questions and inquiries you may be interested in checking out before embarking on this new way of living. Let’s check them out, shall we?

How much does it cost?

Active adult communities go from small apartment-type complexes to luxury areas, some with immense golf courses. It goes without saying that you should narrow down your search depending on your budget.

In order to establish the general cost of the community, you should check out which are the costs of the rent/mortgage, the Home Owners Association fees, and/or general community fees. This last point is particularly important if the community you’re interested in has common areas such as a gym or a golf course. When doing the budgetary analysis, you should also bear in mind the general maintenance costs, both of the community as well as your house and garden. Is that included in the price or not?

Affordable housing is possible to get, you just need to know where to find it.

How active is the community? What are the benefits and/or activities provided? Are there any restrictions?

Because many communities are just tall buildings with a few amenities, inquiring about the available facilities is a must especially if you want to have an active and healthy lifestyle. Is there a common area? Is there a pool or a golf course or gym? Another benefit that many of these communities provide is health care centers or medical facilities. Be aware that these types of communities tend to have restrictions in regards to visitors and pets and are usually imposed for safety reasons. Be sure to ask and know which of those are and if you are willing to comply with them or not.

Where is the community located? What’s the weather and surroundings like? Is transportation available?

Nature and proximity to urban areas are both key elements when moving into an active 55+ community. Although it really depends on your preferences, you may want to travel, go for a hike, or visit your grandchildren, or maybe just enjoy a night in the movies with your spouse. Either way, you deserve the best of both worlds, so you can live your life to the fullest.

That’s why you should check out the community locations we offer:
